Cute Young Adult fantasy written in the
good-verses-evil sword & sorcery style. Hero Centra is a young man
searching for his origins who makes a lot of friends on his
journey. All he knows is that the man who raised him is not blood
kin, and that he feels a compulsion to move on until he finds what
he is looking for. Along the way Centra wields a sword with skill,
as well as magical powers he doesn't understand with more power than
control. Centra needs friends most of all, for his counterpart is
an evil wizard with an evil scheme that includes Centra.
But we mustn't forget the dragon. A long time
ago a very young human toddled into a baby dragon's lair, bit his
tail, and said, "Yucky!" Ever since, the dragon who calls himself
Yucky has been looking for his wizard. Things keep going wrong, and
it's a long journey. The union of this dragon and his wizard will
be the greatest power in all the land, when they finally find each
other.
The action and plotting in A DRAGON'S TAIL are
good. The editing is excellent. The world-building is decent. But
the characterization is rather flat, an inherent failing common in
the good-verses-evil theme. This book is recommended for readers
who have a preference for reading stories within an absolute value
system.
