Imagine a princess so ugly that she hasn’t even been allowed to grow up in the castle but is instead cloistered far away with Trolls for guards. When her not-so-nice father finally dies, the Royal Champion of Abernal, Sir Christopher Evergild takes it upon himself to go fetch the heir to the throne. Of course this isn’t easy as things never are in stories of this sort. Sir Christopher and his friend the Seneschal of House Rediman are challenged by neighboring monarchies that seek power over Abernal’s ports, power that some nobles in Abernal are willing to give up for a price. Chris has other problems as well, hauntings from his past that make duty to his new queen especially worrisome, not to mention the fact that he is also falling in love with her.

THE UGLY PRINCESS is a fun, fast read, recommended for girls of all ages who like a tale of the good princess and her honorable knight in shining armor. Liz Burton knows the elements of story telling and uses them well.
