Lord Auditor Miles Vorkosigan can't even finish his honeymoon without getting called to duty. Now he's off to Quaddiespace with his new bride where half the humans on Graf Station have four arms and no l+egs. At least here he doesn't feel quite so much like a mutant himself. But the real problem is that something happened, tempers flared, and now a Barryaran ship is impounded with its crew still aboard. They are upset because a member of their crew is missing and presumed dead. The stationers are upset because Barrayarans don't make the best guests (uh, they do tend to get into trouble). So, Miles has to straighten this mess out, but it gets more twisted the more he looks at it. Oh no, there's Cetagandan behind this plot! and a criminal one at that--good grief. Miles finds he can't run fast enough to escape this trap.
Good plotting and "who-done-it" mystery. Good unique world-building. But I wonder: How much more torture can Ms. Bujold put poor Miles through? I'm starting to ache with him!
