Recovered from his grievous wounds taken at the end of DEVLIN'S LUCK, Devlin of Duncaer now has to contend with more King's Council squabbles and the continuation of doubters to Devlin's right to be the Chosen One, Champion of the Kingdom of Jorsk. Those doubters are now saying that Devlin should prove he's the Chosen One by going on a quest to retrieve the long lost Sword of Light. What they really want is to get Devlin out of Jorsk for awhile. Devlin knows this, but he also knows that his position in Jorsk is indeed tenuous without the famed sword in his possession. Luckily, Devlin recognizes the sword in a painting and thinks he knows where he can find it. Perhaps a short quest. . . .
Of course it isn't that easy. Devlin's honor is not only at stake in Jorsk, but in his homeland of Duncaer too where he and his friend Stephen travel in search of the sword. And when Devlin's behavior becomes dangerously erratic, even his friends question Devlin's honor. There's strong magic afoot, and a little swordplay too. This is a nice series for fans of sword & sorcery. Author Bray is good at characterization. Her stories are fun and easy to read. The Caerfolk say Devlin is a traitor. And Devlin's quest to retrieve the sword that conquered them is proof to them that he can no longer be trusted.
DEVLIN'S HONOR is a deadly game. And again, Devlin has friends who protect him, "even from himself."
